Münstermaifeld
The working group of city guides for Münstermaifeld invites you:
Tour in the footsteps of Jewish life
There is evidence that Jews have lived in Münstermaifeld since the 13th century. A community with a cemetery and synagogue was probably founded at this time. With the adoption of fixed family names in 1808, we can follow the fate of the Bender, Diewald, Kaufmann, Marx and Oster families for 130 years until the destruction of Jewish life in Münstermaifeld. On November 10, 1938, the synagogue is destroyed down to the outer walls. Flight, expulsion and deportation to the extermination camps put an end to the coexistence of Jews and Christians in the town in 1942. Until 1933, Jewish families were able to see themselves as fellow citizens who were at home in Münstermaifeld through their neighbourly ties and participation in the town's public life
